5 things to do in the East Midlands this weekend

1. Ice Rink opening ceremony
Date: Saturday 26th November
Location: City square, Lincoln
Go along and celebrate the official opening of Lincoln Ice Rink this weekend with a series of performances from local dance groups compered by presenters from Lincs FM. Following the dance performances at 11am, the ceremonial ribbon will be cut by the Mayor of Lincoln and the ice rink will be open for the public to skate.
2. Winter Westival
Date: Saturday 26th – Sunday 27th November
Location: Braunstone Gate, Leicester
Former Leicester city player Steve Walsh will be kicking off the entertainment on Saturday at 6pm as the festival gets underway at various venues along Braunstone Gate. Craft, vintage and market stalls, fairground rides, street food and drink, live bands, dance, street performers, festive entertainment, children’s activities and much more will be on offer throughout the weekend.
The restaurants and bars along Braunstone Gate will also be serving up special Westival beer, cocktails and sports simulator try outs for visitors to experience too.
3. ABBA Mania
Date: Friday 25th November
Location: Royal & Derngate, Northampton
Dig out those platforms, dust down those flares and thank ABBA for the music because the world’s number one touring ABBA production is coming to Northampton this weekend. Enjoy all of your favourites including Mamma Mia, Voulez Vous, Dancing Queen, Winner Takes It All, Super Trouper and many more at this one-night only concert.
4. Light up a Life
Date: Sunday 27th November
Location: Nottingham Castle
Each year Light up a life brings people together to remember and celebrate the people they have loved and lost. This year, Light up a Life invites people to come together to dedicate a light on their Christmas tree in memory of that special person. As part of your dedication, guests can choose to include some words of love or favourite memories and have them included in the Book of Remembrance. The Christmas tree will later be lit up with all the dedicated lights.
5. Aladdin
Date: Friday 25th November – Saturday 21st January
Location: Nottingham Playhouse, Nottingham
