Hemingway’s guide to party season outfits

In association with Hemingway Tailors
The party season often allows us to bring out the fashionista within us. With a fair few events taking place, there’s likely to be an occasion you’ll have to get dressed up for. But as with many things, along with all the potentially great outfits on show, there’ll undoubtedly be a few wardrobe disasters.
That’s why we’ve put together some looks that’ll help see you through the festive season in style.
Office parties
Most office parties tend to be quite informal, but that shouldn’t be a reason to not make an effort. If you’re a regular suit wearer within the work place then add a few accessories to bring a touch of spark to your outfit. Throw on your favourite watch along with those shoes you save for special occasions.
If you want to go for a more casual look then simply wear your blazer open and lose your tie, this makes it easy to switch between a smart and smart-casual for those who are uncertain on what to wear.
Christmas cocktails
Cocktail parties usually allow for a little more exuberance in your dress. Bring your look to life with a hit of colour courtesy of your shirt, tie and pocket square – obviously making sure they all complement one another.
You can switch your look to something more smart-casual in similar style to the ‘office party’ example above – simply removing your tie and opening your collar button will help deliver the more relaxed look you’re after.
New Year’s Eve firework party
The key to enjoying a New Year’s Eve party is to dress appropriately for the weather. No doubt you’ll be taking in the celebratory fireworks outdoors so be sure to layer up.
A wool dress coat along with a pair of leather gloves and a cashmere scarf will help to keep the bitter chill away and see you welcome 2017 in style.
Black tie ball
The ultimate chance to dress as sharp as one can – if you’ve got a black tie ball approaching you’ll be wanting to go all out! A bespoke dinner jacket would certainly go fittingly with the occasion and is a piece of clothing which will never go out of fashion.
Make sure you wear a white shirt with a pleated or Marcela front along with double cuffs so you can add some classy cufflinks.
Winter wedding
There’s a growing trend in winter weddings – and irrespective of your role, whether you’re the groom, best man or just a guest, it’s important you look the part.
Team up a neutral-coloured suit with accessories in colours which reflect the wintry mood – think tones similar to forest greens and burgundies. You’ll also want to find yourself a comfortable pair of brogues which will allow you to dance the night away.
A tailored suit should be the starting point of your outfit for any of the above occasions. If you want to look good then your suit has to fit right and this is something an off the rack suit will almost always struggle to achieve.
