Council HQ back on the market after deal collapses

The deal to sell one of Nottingham’s most iconic buildings has fallen through, it has emerged.

Rushcliffe Borough Council thought it had sold its Civic Centre headquarters in June, but the deal collapsed.

The Council has spent recent weeks re-marketing the site, with the deadline for offers ending this week.

In February FHP and Savills were instructed to market the 10-storey, 75,000 sq ft building, which was originally built as a hotel.

Rushcliffe Borough Council, which spent last Friday (16th December) moving from the Civic Centre to its new head office at the Rushcliffe Arena leisure complex, says it now hopes to announce the new owners in February.

Speaking to TheBusinessDesk.com, a spokesperson for the Council said: “Following an initial marketing exercise earlier in 2016, Rushcliffe Borough Council has once again marketed the Civic Centre on Pavilion Road with bids due in mid-December.
“The building was subject to much interest when it was initially marketed and as such, interested parties have been invited to re-bid for the property. The Council expects to receive bids before Christmas.

“Once the Council has exchanged contracts with the purchaser and is in a position to share the name of the prospective purchaser, it will do so. We anticipate that this is likely to be by February 2017.

“In the meantime, the Council is undergoing an exciting move to its brand new purpose-built offices at Rushcliffe Arena on Rugby Road in West Bridgford.”
