Stepnell heads back to school with £3.5m contract

Nottingham-based construction firm Stepnell has been awarded a £3.5m contract by Bourne Grammar School in Bourne, Lincolnshire, to build its new science block.

Work is now under way by the construction team on the two-storey facility, which will provide 15 laboratories and three preparation rooms as well as student and staff toilet facilities. Stepnell’s Nottingham office is based at the Eldon Business Park, Chilwell.

Designed by architects Grayling Thomas, the Science Block is due to be completed ready for September 2017.

Bourne Grammar School is going through a period of expansion and creating an additional 600 school places and the new science block will provide accommodation for students from Year 7 through to sixth form.

Stepnell operations and commercial manager Thomas Sewell said: “The new Science Block will provide a spacious, well-equipped advanced learning and teaching environment for science at Bourne Grammar School. We have a strong record in creating education facilities and are excited to be bringing that skill and knowledge to this exciting project.”
