Intu swoops for Eagle Market

Shopping centre giant intu has announced that it has exchanged contracts with Derby City Council for the purchase of Eagle Market.

Intu says it has a three-year plan to “maintain the heart and character of Derby’s celebrated market whilst improving on the traditional features customers have come to love about the local space”.

Intu has already appointed WMC to manage the new market through the transformation.

Adam Tamsett, general manager at intu Derby, said, “We’re looking forward to injecting new life into the market, creating a place for people to shop, eat and relax in whilst supporting existing traders and attracting new ones.

“Today’s exchange marks a pivotal turning point in the process as we look ahead to an exciting year.”

Intu says it will look to improve the layout of the current market and introduce new market-style eateries and independent retailers.

Official completion of contracts will take place on 30 March 2017.
