Brown Dog takes a bite out of Creative Quarter

Marketing agency Brown Dog has moved into new premises in Nottingham’s Creative Quarter creating new jobs, after securing funding from First Enterprise and the city’s Creative Quarter Loan Fund.
Hannah Ellis started Brown Dog in 2006. She said: “We celebrated our 10 year anniversary last year with a rebrand, new website, brochure and our in-house magazine ’Scene’. We are now recruiting for new jobs in line with expansion.
“The support we have received from First Enterprise has been great in enabling us to expand even further and drive its growth.
“I have a lot of experience in marketing and decided to launch Brown Dog to be part of an agency with integrity to craft beautiful work which leads the market.”
In 2015 Brown Dog moved to George Street in the the Creative Quarter. It now employs 20 full time and part time staff after receiving loan funding from the Creative Quarter Loan Fund and Regional Growth Fund.
Ellis added: “We wanted to move to the Creative Quarter in order to work more closely to retail, for client ease and staff recruitment. First Enterprise enabled us to refurbish a dated Victorian building in the right location.”
Councillor Nick McDonald, portfolio holder for jobs, growth and transport at Nottingham City Council, added: “I was really delighted to meet Hannah recently and hear first-hand the many reasons why the Creative Quarter in Nottingham is now the business location for high growth creative agencies like Brown Dog.
“This is a business that already works with a number of significant national and international brands. I have no doubt that Hannah and her team have made the right decision to invest in Nottingham’s Creative Quarter and wish them continued success in the future.”
To apply for Creative Quarter Loan funding, businesses need to be already domiciled in or relocating to the Creative Quarter area of Nottingham.
Neil Millington, loan fund manager at First Enterprise, said: “It was clear that Hannah had a great business plan and the drive to make the business a success. We are here to help other entrepreneurs or existing businesses that need financial support.
“This year is set to be a strong one for the number of new start-ups and we want people to know that if they have a business which could benefit from loan funding then they should come to us.”
