Plans for 175 Nottinghamshire homes rejected

A revised plan for a housing estate in the Nottinghamshire village of Ruddington have been rejected by the local council after over 600 people objected.

Space Foods Limited wanted to build 175 homes off Asher Lane in Ruddington as part of the Council’s plans to build 250 new homes in the village, but the plans were rejected by Rushcliffe Borough Council because the development was on Green Belt land and traffic concerns and noise pollution from a nearby kennels not being taken into account.

A design and access statement prepared by Andrew Granger & Co reads: “We consider that the site is suitable to accommodate the proposed development as described above and indicated on the submitted Illustrative Masterplan in line with the national and local planning policy context. Rushcliffe Borough Council has identified Ruddington as a key sustainable settlement, capable of accommodating a minimum of 250 dwellings. Whilst, the site remains in the Greenbelt, no specific sites have come forward to meet the 250 dwelling target.”

Space Foods had previously applied to build homes on the site. Two years ago, the company wanted to build 250 homes on Asher Lane. It prompted anger from Ruddington residents and attracted over 900 objections. The application was later withdrawn.
