The Voice winner set to headline Mansfield party

Kevin Simm

An open air party, headlined with a live performance from Kevin Simm, the Brit Award winning Liberty X singer and winner of The Voice UK 2016, is to be held in Mansfield town centre.

Party on the Market takes place on July 9, and will also see Little Mix tribute band Little Fix, ABBA Fever, and disco, funk & soul band Ginny Brown & the Collective, playing live to the crowds.

And organisers are hoping this free, family event will become an annual date where people can be entertained, be proud of Mansfield and celebrate the town.

There will be an avenue of speciality street food stalls, including pulled pork, Caribbean delicacies, Latin food, bbq shack, wood fired pizza and it all takes place between 2pm and 7.30pm.

Sarah Nelson, from Mansfield Business Improvement District, is leading the organisation on behalf of a number of partners, including Mansfield District Council.

She said: “Mansfield has a fantastic town centre and some fabulous people, so this event seemed a great way to celebrate what we have.

“People have for years been talking about having a big party in the town centre that is family-oriented and this will be it. The aim is to put on a open air party that becomes an annual date that people can enjoy.”

Jono Edwards, who co-owns a number of venues in the town centre added: “People know my love for Mansfield and the people who make our town great. Surely it’s time we finally let go our past reputations, move forward and truly appreciate what we have on our doorstep.

“There has been lots of positive organisation with some really creative and passionate people. Party on the Market will be amazing; it’s our first event and we urge everyone and their families to come down, support it and together, we’ll make this work.

“We’ve got fantastic live music, great street food stalls, fun family entertainment. You don’t need much more do you? Let’s pray we get the weather too.”

Mike Robinson, director of economic growth at Mansfield District Council, said: “We’re glad to support another big event for Mansfield as it is one that is sure to raise the profile of the town centre and encourage residents to enjoy a night out while supporting their local economy.”
