Controversial Derbyshire business park could create 655 jobs

A business park which could create 650 jobs in Derbyshire has been recommended for approval by planners, according to reports.

The Derby Telegraph reports that Peveril Securities and Vaillant Group, which are both based in Belper, want to develop land in the town known locally as Bullsmoor into 23-acre scheme.

Local MP Pauline Laytham is among those campaigning against the scheme, which sits inside the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Buffer Zone.

The Tory MP has written to Amber Valley Borough Council’s planning board saying the plans could “critically threaten this World Heritage Site” and that increased traffic would put strain on the local road network.

Hers is one over 100 letters of objection to the scheme.

Boiler maker Vaillant wants to expand its factory on the site by nearly 65,000 sq ft.

Other plans include the building of a new business park alongside the factory which would bring forward 70,000 sq ft of office space and nearly 81,000 sq ft of industrial space.

Developers says that, combined, the schemes would bring create 655 jobs in Belper, which suffered job losses over over 300 last year when Courtaulds closed its site in the town.
