Royal visit closes Nottingham city centre roads

Fletcher Gate

A host of Nottingham city centre roads will be closed this morning as the city hosts the first public appearance of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following the announcement of their engagement earlier this week.

The couple will be visiting the Nottingham Contemporary to support the Terrence Higgins World Aids Day charity fair.

Nottingham City Council says the roads will be closed until mid-afternoon.

The following roads will be closed to all vehicles and have limited pedestrian access:

Hollowstone

High Pavement

St Mary’s Gate

Middle Hill

Weekday Cross

A decision may be made by Nottinghamshire Police on the day to close Fletcher Gate to all traffic in both directions, including the trams and buses, depending on the scale of the crowds

Due to the closure of Middle Hill, it is likely motorists will be unable to access Lace Market Car Park.

People arriving before the closure will be able to exit during the day by turning right out of the car park and going through Lace Market.

Alternatively, the City Council is providing extra parking through the opening the Motorpoint Arena Car Park from 6.30am.

The Council says there is only temporary lighting in half of the car park and it is not lined, so is asking all customers to take care when using the car park, which not be suitable for those with accessibility requirements.

Payment can only be made by phone, through RingGo, using location code 18913.
