Nottingham hotel has extension plans thrown out

A plan to extend a major Nottingham hotel has been turned down by Nottingham City Council after concerns over a loss of trees and flooding.

Doubletree by Hilton wanted to add 36 rooms to its Nuthall Road hotel, and had gained planning approval for the extension at the south end of the building early last year. However, management hotel decided not to pursue this as they realised it would cause too much disruption, and applied to extend at the north side.

The extension would have created 10 jobs.

However, Nottingham City Coucil has thrown out the plans, saying: “The proposed development would result in a loss of tree cover and would introduce a visual break into the substantial belt of trees around the site. As such, the proposal would be harmful to the character and appearance of the Basford Hall Conservation Area.

“The proposed development is in an area identified as at risk from flooding. The application, as submitted, fails to demonstrate that the development and its occupants would not be at risk from
flooding.”
