Waste firm set to start work on £250m Leicestershire incinerator

Waste firm Biffa is set to start building a £250m incinerator in Leicestershire next year, according to reports.

Trade title Construction Enquirer says that Biffa is ready to start tendering for the 33MW scheme which will sustain around 300 jobs and create 40 more at Newhurst Quarry near Shepshed.

The company was given the go-ahead to build the incinerator in 2012, but has placed the project on hold as it finalises designs.

Biffa was initally refused planning permission for the Energy Recovery Facility by Leicestershire County Council in 2011, but appealed successfuly to the Secretary of State.
