Retail plans revealed to create 26 jobs in Newark

The former Sawmill pub

Plans have been revealed to turn a former pub site in Newark into shops in a move which will create 26 jobs.

DWA Architects and its sister company WA Consulting Engineers are working to regenerate the former Sawmill pub on Beacon Road in the town into a Co-op store and second retail unit.

David Ward, managing director of DWA Architects, said: “It’s very exciting to be part of the transformation of this site from run down pub into new shops that will breathe new life into the site and area.”

Planning permission was granted last year following a troubled past for the pub, which led to Marston’s declaring it ‘unviable and surplus to requirements’.
