Green light for controversial Derbyshire mixed-use scheme

How the new scheme could look

Developer Waystone has been given the green light to start work on a controversial mixed-use scheme in Derbyshire.

Bolsover District Council has given the go-ahead for the firm to build 1,800 homes, retirement homes, a hotel, restaurant and business units on land north of Clowne.

The land is part of the Sitwell Estate owned by Lord Kirkham, the founder of DFS. Residents in the village of Clowne had previously complained of a lack of communication about the scheme from Alfreton-based Aystone and Bolsover District Council.

A statement from the Council said: “Our Planning Committee [has] resolved to approve the ‘Clowne North’ application subject to conditions and various contributions to local infrastructure and we will now refer the application to the Secretary of State to determine whether the application will be ‘called in’ for further consideration.”
