Weekender: Logged off – Catherine Haward, Wheatcroft Land

Catherine Haward

How does Catherine Haward, the busy owner of developer Wheatcroft Land unwind at the weekend. We asked her…

How do you relax at the weekend?
With a busy family life and being in the final year of a degree it’s hard to find any “me” time, but now the kids are old enough to be left ‘home alone’ my husband and I try to find a few hours in the morning to get out on our road bikes.

How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
I don’t generally ‘work’ as it’s good to switch off from the Monday-Friday stuff but I usually spend 8-12 hours studying over the weekend, more if there’s an exam or essay looming and I’m also currently working on my dissertation.

What’s your favourite…
– holiday destination? I always used to say I’d never go on holiday to the same place twice as there’s so much to explore in the world, but this year I am returning to Puerto Pollensa, Majorca for the fourth year in a row. We love it for the cycling, scuba diving and relaxed family atmosphere.

– book? I tend to go for easy to read novels to switch off my brain before I go to sleep and rarely know the book title as a Kindle doesn’t show you the front cover every time you pick it up! However, I think my favourite book is probably A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

– album? I love anything I can sing along/dance to whilst I’m cooking – just to embarrass the kids!

– food? I love anything fish/seafood related.

– TV programme? You can’t beat a good period drama to truly escape and wrap yourself up in on a Sunday night (Downton Abbey, War and Peace, Poldark, The Crown).

– website or app? Strava – the most important thing a cyclist can have – other than a good pair of padded shorts!

How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
9pm Sunday evening is my favourite time of the week – PJs on, wine in hand and a good period drama on the box… and relax…
