National Space Centre lands slice of £13m funding

National Space Centre

The National Space Centre in Leicester has been chosen as one of six science centres across the UK to receive a £13m cash injection from the government to help attract thousands of new visitors.

The funding will help the centre create new learning activities to help reach audiences, improve their facilities and develop sustainable business models.

The National Space Centre will share the funding with Catalyst in Widnes, Dundee Science Centre, Eureka! Mersey, Glasgow Science Centre and Techniquest in Cardiff which will all receive new funding after presenting plans to connect with audiences and communities who don’t currently visit science centres or engage with learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Science Minister Sam Gyimah said: “We want to bring the wonders of science to as wide an audience as possible and that’s why it is at the heart of our modern Industrial Strategy. This investment will help inspire people from across the country to learn about the truly amazing benefits that science and technology has on all our lives.”
