Brewery reveals national pub expansion plans

Derbyshire brewery Thornbridge is set to embark on a national expansion plan after revealing plans to open 10 pubs across the UK.

The Bakewell company, which is behind the celebrated Jaipur IPA and already owns nine pubs – including one in the Netherlands, has joined forces with Pivovar, a York-based craft ale wholesaler and plans to open the pubs over the next five years.

Planning has been approved on the first site, a former branch of Lloyds Bank on Colmore Row, in Birmingham city centre and is due to open this Autumn.

A statement from Thornbridge said: “The Birmingham Tap will be a traditional take on the modern Craft Beer pub, incorporating the Thornbridge brand values and making the most of the history of the building. The pub will be welcoming to all, family friendly and will have a food offering to complement the range of craft beers.

“Thornbridge and Co. hope to add to the excellent Craft Beer offering in Birmingham and give the opportunity for the city to have an ever changing range of Thornbridge beers to try on draught and in bottle.”

Thornbridge says it has also secured a second site in York which is due to open by the end of the year, and will look to open pubs in London, Manchester, Brighton and Leeds next year.

The statement continued: “Thornbridge and Co. are looking forward to seeing what the future holds and expanding their reach with sites in every corner of the country.”
