City Council asks for help on future development ideas

Leicester City Council is asking developers and landowners to put forward ideas for sites which could be developed for future uses.

The council is in the process of drawing up its latest local plan for the city, which will shape future development over the coming years.

As part of the plan, landowners, planning agents and members of the public are being asked to give their suggestions for potential sites or groups of sites which could be included to help meet future development needs.

They have until 16 December this year to put forward their ideas and suggestions.

Potential sites will then be consulted upon as part of the consultation on the draft local plan. Suitable sites could be allocated within the local plan to be used for new housing developments, office and industrial space or essential services such as educational or community facilities.

Leicester City Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “We want to identify pockets of land which could play an important future role in the city’s development. Suitable sites will be included in our new local plan, which sets out longer-term proposals for the city.

“It’s important as much suitable land as possible is included, to give us options as we work to drive the city’s future prosperity while balancing this with the needs of our residents.

“We welcome people’s suggestions for sites which could be included.”
