Troubled estate to get new lease of life with major construction project

Plans for a major new housing scheme on the site of a run-down estate in Newark have been given the go-ahead.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has given the green light for 320 new homes at the Yorke Drive Estate in the town.

Created in the 1960s, the 15.5 hectare-site has suffered a decline in its reputation over recent years.

HTA Design’s masterplan for the site has now been granted planning permission.

Simon Bayliss, HTA Design managing director, said: “This approval is great news for the future of the Yorke Drive Estate, bringing the chance of better facilities, improved landscape, safer streets and, crucially, significant numbers of new homes for the local community. Throughout the extensive consultation process we received public support for improving links to the surrounding area and facilitating additional development. We look forward to continuing our work with the council and local community to deliver this vision.”
