£50m city centre mixed-use scheme in doubt

How Fleet Village would look

A £50m mixed-used scheme that developers say would create over 100 jobs has been recommended for refusal by Leicester City Council’s planning chiefs.

Developers, LCL commissioned architect rg+p to design the scheme, known as Fleet Village, on the site of the derelict and disused former office buildings on Lee Circle and Old Milton Street in the St George’s North area of the city.

The proposed 11-storey development includes new apartments and associated amenities for residents such as concierge service, gym, café/bar/lounge and cycle storage alongside 3,000 sq ft retail units. Planning permission was sought in January of this year.

However, planners at Leicester City Council have recommended that the scheme be refused permission to buult on the grounds that the application is “unacceptable on design, conservation and quality of living accommodation grounds”.

Leicester City Council’s Planning Committee will sit on 24 April to decide on the scheme.

LCL has been behind similar schemes in Leicester, having completed 250 apartments at Clyde Court on Erskine Street and Markfield Court off Abbey Park Street.
