London property developers eye Notts County takeover, say reports

London property developers could be the new owners of Notts County, according to reports in the national press.

The Mirror says that owner Alan Hardy is looking for £5m for the Magpies, who were relegated to non-league football for the first time in their 157-year history after defeat against  Swindon Town last Saturday.

The reports suggest that a consortium headed by Alex May and ex-professional footballer Tony Kenworthy are in the running to take over at Meadow Lane.

Other names mentioned over the past fortnight have been ex-Port Vale owner Norman Smurfwaite, who attended games at Meadow Lane towards the end of the season.

In a statement after the Swindon game on Saturday, Hardy said: “Conversations with prospective new owners are ongoing and I expect a deal to be completed in the near future.”
