Actons, the Nottingham law firm, has appointed a new chairman.

Simon Dakin takes over from Nicky Calthrop-Owen, who has completed six years as chairman.

A director in the firm’s Corporate and Commercial team, Dakin joined Actons in 2003 and became a director in 2007. He will continue his client facing work alongside his position as chairman.

Dakin said: “I’m really pleased to become chairman at an exciting time for our business as we look to implement the next phase of our growth strategy.

“I’d like to thank Nicky for her dedication as chairman during the past six years. It’s a demanding role and she will be a hard act to follow, but I relish the opportunity to build on the success that Nicky has achieved.

“I know that Nicky will continue to play an instrumental part in the firm as a Director in the Insolvency team.”

Calthrop-Owen added: “It’s really important for businesses to remain fresh and dynamic – and Simon taking on the role is the natural next step for him and the firm.

“After Actons highest billing year ever and six years as Chairman, I’m delighted to hand over the role of Chairman to Simon. I know he will do an excellent job. I look forward to seeing Actons continue to thrive under his leadership as he works alongside our chief executive Chris Murratt. Now, back to full time fee earning for me!”
