Lincoln City FC manager departs

Sincil Bank

Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley and his assistant Nicky Cowley have left the football club.

The Cowley brothers oversaw the Imps’ impressive rise from the National League to Sky Bet League One in the space of just three seasons. Now, following weeks of speculation, the pair have agreed to join Huddersfield Town in the Sky Bet Championship.

A statement released by the club on Monday confirmed the news: “Lincoln City Football Club can confirm that Danny and Nicky Cowley have left Sincil Bank in order to take up new roles with Huddersfield Football Club.

“The Terriers have triggered a release clause in the contracts of Danny and Nicky enabling them to discuss and ultimately accept new positions with the West Yorkshire club.

“The Board remain fully focused on creating an environment that provides the conditions for continued success on and off the field.”

Club chairman Clive Nates said: “Danny and Nicky leave with our best wishes and we sincerely hope they go on to have further success in their careers. We have achieved unprecedented success over the past three years which has allowed us to transform all aspects of the Club ensuring we are in a strong position to continue that progress.”

Player-coach Jamie McCombe and goalkeeping coach Andy Warrington will take charge of the first team with support from head of football Jez George until a new management team is installed.
