East Midlands Leadership Awards – Meet the shortlist

In a new series, we’ll be profiling those shortlisted in our forthcoming East Midlands Leadership Awards.

Tickets are now available for the event, to be held from 12-3pm on Wednesday 6 November at the Crowne Plaza in Nottingham, which will celebrate the cream of East Midlands business leadership as we crown those steering their companies or organisations to success.

In the third of the series, we take a look at the Emerging Entrepreneur category.

James Blake

James Blake is the director and founder of Powerful Ideas; he founded the company in February 2019 as he was drawing to the end of a two and a half year transformational change programme at Talk Staff Group where he held the role of people director.

James drives the business and has built strategic partnerships with other businesses to compliment the offering, Powerful Ideas is a hub for all things people. Powerful Ideas delivers changes and programmes, or partners with other businesses and partners.

By creating this model of business James has created scalability and has access to true industry experts, all whilst keeping his on-going internal staff cost low. He currently manages all aspects of the business but is looking to take on internal support soon.

Richard Sutton

Richard Sutton is both a director and, more recently, has been appointed NG Chartered Surveyors’ new managing director.

He has a track record of recognising and rewarding talent, from whatever gender, ethnicity or social background. Backing this up is the fact that NG is first surveying firm in the East Midlands to achieve RICS Inclusive Employer status.

Richard’s view is that if staff are treated like adults then good people will do good things. He also has a zero-tolerance stance on workplace bullying.

On the back of this, NG has grown to become a diverse, inclusive agency always embracing new cultures, genders and ways of working.

Victoria Tretis

Victoria Tretis is a director of My [ ] Rocks and a certified online business manager. She the face of the brand and the recognised name.

Victoria wears all the hats that come with being a micro-business – sales, marketing, accounting, IT support, as well as client management, doing the doing, and stepping back to figure out her own big-picture goals.

She started off as a Virtual Assistant (VA), and has gone on to write training for VAs who are looking to earn more money and take on more clients, as well as individuals looking to hire a VA with confidence.

Alan Forsyth

Alan Forsyth is the founder and managing director of Hockley Developments, having set up the firm in 2017.

He has recruited industry experts in architecture, QS and construction and has a clear understanding of what the public want in terms of pricing and location.

With 14 years’ experience in the property industry, Alan has excellent knowledge, which has allowed him to grow the business so quickly in Nottingham. He is well respected by Nottingham Council, plus all the local agents, FHP, Savills, Innes England, Box Property – enjoying strong working relationships with them all.

Anita Jackson

Anita Jackson is the owner and managing director at Recruit 2 You, a business she started In May 2018.

Anita works in the business daily and is very hands on in all aspects. She is a motivated entrepreneur and is always looking for an angle that can give our business the unique edge over her competitors.

Recruit 2 You offers professional recruitment services for clients based in and around Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, for both temporary and permanent staffing requirements. The company is a specialist in the manufacturing industry.
