Enhanced Moorways plans given the go-ahead

How the complex will look

New and improved designs for Derby’s new multi-million pound pool complex have been given the green light by planners.

Designs submitted in the summer for the major new leisure facility at Moorways have now been extended to include a water park featuring the country’s first wave generating wow ball and the first wave rider slide of its kind.

Dual racer slides, a beach area and water playground with mini slides and water jets are also set to feature now the plans have been approved, and the exterior of the building will be clad in a dual tone silver to gold metallic material which changes colour depending on the position of the sun.

Building work on the scheme is expected to wrap up in late 2021.

Derby City Council has approved £42 million funding for the project so far.

Claire Davenport, director for leisure, culture and tourism at the Council, said: “Now we have planning permission for this exciting project, we can continue to move forward with the detailed designs. The project will continue to gather pace and work on site will start this month.”
