On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Joanna Adams

The Youth Sport Trust has appointed the former chief executive of England Netball to its Board of Trustees.

Joanna Adams joins the Leicester-based charity after almost 10 years with the governing body.

She is currently chief commercial officer at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Under Adams’ leadership, England Netball secured the rights to host the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 in Liverpool, which was the best attended Netball World Cup to date. She was also part of the team that was pivotal in the England squad’s historic win at the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Adams joins the charity as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.

She said: “As a lifelong advocate for the power of sport, I’m excited to be joining the board of a charity which is making such a positive difference to young people’s lives. At England Netball we saw the power of sporting role models to drive change. This is at the heart of the fantastic work the Youth Sport Trust does. I can’t wait to get started.”

Elsewhere, Nottingham-based motor retail group Pendragon has appointed a new non-executive director.

Brian Small succeeds Richard Laxer in the role. He will serve on the company’s nomination and remuneration committees and will also succeed Laxer as chairman of Pendragon’s audit committee on 2 January 2020.

Small joins from JD Sports, where he was CFO prior to his retirement in October 2018.

Pendragon’s interim executive chairman Bill Berman said: “I welcome Brian and look forward to working with him on the Board of Pendragon. He has an extensive track record and considerable experience from his career in business, and I am confident he will make a positive contribution to the Board as we continue to take the business forward.”
