Grant Thornton director joins chartered accountants

Rowleys' director Craig Shevas with Tom Copson

Rowleys, the Leicester-based chartered accountants, has appointed former Grant Thornton director Tom Copson to strengthen its mid-market offering.

Copson rejoins Rowleys after spending 14 years at Grant Thornton.

He said: “Rowleys has always enjoyed a fantastic reputation for high quality work and good client service so, when I decided my long term future lay with a more independent firm, they were the firm I wanted to talk to.

“As soon the partners explained their vision for the firm and how they operate now I could see how innovative and agile they were. I felt that I could add value to the firm with my experience and give a more improved offering to those private mid-market businesses I enjoy working with in the East Midlands. It was a real meeting of minds when the team at Rowleys were also looking at how they might invest more in their offering into this market. From there accepting the invitation to join them was just a formality.”

Robert Radford, Rowleys’ managing director, added: While it’s always fantastic to welcome someone to the team who so obviously shares our vision, Tom’s appointment is also an extremely timely one. Increased regulatory scrutiny and the push for more competition in the Big 4 audit market is pushing many of the national firms into that market and away from mid-sized clients.

“This has left a gap in the market.  Tom’s arrival will allow us to offer mid-market businesses all of the experience they need and deliver it with the level of service they want.”
