Leicester Tigers name starting date for £22m redevelopment scheme

Leicester Tigers have revealed that they will start preliminary works on the proposed car park and hotel developments at Welford Road Stadium on Monday, March 23.
Property developer Marshalls Commercial Property Development will break ground on the £22m project which will see the construction of a five-floor 183 room hotel on the surrounding 1.7-acre Granby Hall car park site.
Working with Leicester-based construction consultancy Pick Everard, the hotel will boast 3,300 sq m of reception, lounge and dining areas, as well as a business centre, retail and lobby areas opening up onto an outdoor fan zone in front of the Holland & Barrett Stand.
The facility will also house a fitness suite, restaurant and fifth-floor sky bar on top of an underground car park.
Work will also begin to the south of the stadium with the club also moving forward with a multi-storey car park in place of the current Crumbie Car Park situated behind The Breedon Stand.
All existing NCP equipment such as operating ticket machines, signage and the height restriction barrier to the main entrance will be decommissioned and removed from site prior to vacating on Friday, March 20.
Simon Cohen, chief executive officer at Leicester Tigers, said: “This is an important project to add to the city centre’s facilities and to support the long-term vision around our stadium. It is exciting to be at the stage now where construction can begin and we look forward to working with everyone involved in the development.”
Supporters who currently have seasonal parking with the club will not be affected, however those in hospitality who usually park in the NCP and Crumbie Car Park respectively will be notified with the appropriate changes.
The club anticipates that the construction work will cause some disruption around the stadium in terms of parking and accessibility and will be sharing further details in due course.
