On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

The Trent Rivers Trust, a charity which works with businesses and other partners to protect and enhance rivers, streams and wetlands, has appointed Gail Pickles to a newly-created role of Engagement Officer.
Pickles joins The Trent Rivers Trust having spent 20 years working at Severn Trent Water. There she held a variety of roles, from managing sewers and sewage works as a process engineer to managing Occupational Health and Wellbeing – including training over 1,000 employees in Mental Health First Aid.
Julie Wozniczka, senior project manager at The Trent Rivers Trust, said: “We were delighted to appoint Gail from a really strong field of applicants. She brings extensive expertise as a water ecologist and Occupational Health and Wellbeing manager – and she’s a passionate advocate for rivers. She also has considerable experience in working with businesses and of supporting organisations. Gail will make a great addition to the team.”
Pickles said: “I am really excited to have joined The Trent Rivers Trust, where I will be able to combine my experience, my academic training and my passion for rivers and working with people together.”
Tony Walker
Tony Walker, managing director at Toyota Motor Europe, has been appointed as the High Sheriff of Derbyshire for 2020-21.
Walker takes over from William Cavendish, Earl of Burlington.
He said: “Here all these parts of society work together well for the benefit of local communities in our city and county. In this time of the challenges brought by the Coronavirus we are especially blessed to have wonderful health professionals and a fantastic NHS working hard and making personal sacrifices to care for all of us. We are truly grateful.”
He added: “I am grateful to my predecessor William Burlington for the great work he has done establishing the use of social media by the High Sheriff in Derbyshire. I am hoping I can quickly learn some new skills and become as proficient as him in their use!
“My theme for the year is to try to help local people, and young people in particular, who for some reason are having a tough time, to fulfil their potential, grow as individuals, be contributing members of society and have a good quality of life. If I can make a small difference in this, I will feel it has been a worthwhile year.”
