Grade II listed pub in Derbyshire village set for six-figure refurbishment

A £315,000 refurbishment is underway to reopen The Wheel pub in Ticknall, which has been closed since early 2020.
Starting on 12th May, Heineken-owned Star Pubs is working with new licensee Jason Billingham, who has over 20 years of experience in the pub and restaurant industry, to transform the Grade II listed building.
The project includes a full exterior renovation, with new signage, lighting, and a courtyard garden with new furniture.
A bar and a 50-seat dining area on a mezzanine floor will also be added.
The Wheel is one of several pubs set to benefit from Heineken UK’s £40m investment in its Star Pubs division this year, which will fund upgrades and reopenings, creating nearly 1,000 new jobs nationwide.
Billingham said: “I’ve always wanted a pub of my own. I heard about The Wheel from some former regulars and fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I aim to restore it to the popular pub it was in the past and make it part of the community once again. The new designs are fantastic; The Wheel will look beautiful when the works are done. I can’t wait to open the doors and show everyone the changes.”
Craig Foweather, Star Pubs’ investment manager said: “We’re delighted to be joining forces with Jason to reopen such a landmark pub. His plans for The Wheel are spot on; it will be a superb local for the village as well as a destination dining spot for those from further afield. We’ll be working flat out to open the doors again in time for the summer.”
