Newark taken off Covid-19 watch list

Newark and Sherwood has been taken off the Government’s watch list of areas of concern for Covid-19 cases.

Newark and Sherwood was placed on the Government’s watch list on 13 August and to help reduce the transmission.

Council officers have been patrolling the district, visiting local businesses to ensure they remain Covid-secure and distributing posters to re-iterate the guidelines for visitors and residents. Representatives from neighbouring local authorities have also joined the Council in providing this support.

Newark and Sherwood District Council leader, councillor David Lloyd, said: “Well done everyone. It is thanks to the efforts of our local businesses and local residents in taking extra precautions to follow the guidance that the rate of Coronavirus infections has fallen and a local lockdown has been prevented.

“However, we must not become complacent and we must remain vigilant. The messaging remains the same – we must still wash our hands frequently, maintain social distancing and follow guidance on car sharing and mixing with other households.”

“We have been doing everything we can to support local shops, pubs, restaurants and services in ensuring they can keep their customers and staff safe during this period. It has been so encouraging to see everyone playing their part,” councillor Lloyd continued. “We must support our local economy by visiting our town centres and local shops and businesses and they are doing everything they can to ensure everyone is safe.”
