Developer submits third set of plans for city centre site

How the amended scheme would look

A developer has submitted a third set of plans to build 14 flats on a site in Nottingham city centre.

Wholesale food group Asian is again asking the city council to grant permission to build 14 flats across a five-storey building on the site for a former pub on Raleigh Street.

Previous attempts in April of last year and and February 2018 were dimissed, with the council saying the height of the building would impact the living conditions of the adjacent Portland Square flats.

Design amendments made to the new application include a “significantly reduced” return wing meaning the building doesn’t encroach in front of Portland Square windows.

A planning statement submitted by Rayner Davies reads: “The proposed scheme will create a high quality building which is respectful to its setting and the conservation area. This will make a positive contribution to the street scene by developing the vacant plot to Stoneleigh Street and Raleigh Street.

“The massing, height and architectural language of the proposed development has been carefully designed to respect and respond to the character of the conservation area, and to directly resolve design issues associated with the refused planning applications which the Planning Inspector cited as reason for dismissal.”
