Council consults on future of new residential development

Newark and Sherwood District Council is asking residents to feedback their thoughts on their Residential Parking Standards and Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document.

This proposed document outlines the District’s approach in relation to parking standards and design of parking provision for new residential development in the area.

This includes information about the Council’s parking requirements in relation to parking design for bicycles and cars.

The District Council is currently consulting local residents, landowners, developers, Town and Parish Councils, registered housing providers and other interested parties for a period of 8 weeks from 17 September 2020 to 11 November 2020.

The aim of the document is to provide high quality, attractive, well-designed places to live with safe, convenient and useable parking provision.

It also wants to encourage people to cycle more for short distance trips to improve the health and wellbeing of residents, improve air quality and reduce fuel emissions and energy consumption.

The document also outlines plans to include electric vehicle charging capabilities within every new housing development. Each dwelling would be provided with one fast charge socket connect with a 32 amp radial circuit as a minimum.

Councillor Roger Blaney, Newark and Sherwood District Council Planning Committee chairman, said: “We believe it will make a real positive difference for both the environment and the community.

“With the inclusion of electric chargers in every new build household and introducing more cycle friendly streets we hope we can contribute to the Government’s target for the UK to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

“We want to have a clear and transparent approach about these proposals and that’s why we’re asking local residents to feedback on the document. We’d appreciate any comments on the document so we can ensure we can get this right so it suits the whole community.”
