easy® launches food order brand in Leicester

easyFood, part of the easy® group of brands, has launched in Leicester with a pledge to cut restaurant delivery fees by as much as 75%.

The city will be the first territory where the budget-friendly food order brand will launch.

Unlike other food delivery companies which can charge restaurants up to 40% of each order in commission, easyFood says it will cost a flat fee of just £3.99 per order, for delivery up to three miles, or just £1.50 if a restaurant delivers the orders itself.

easyFood is free for restaurants to join, with no subscription fees or hardware costs – helping them during England’s second lockdown this November. Once doors do open again, easyFood says it has has scrapped all dine-in fees for pubs, bars, and restaurants.

easyFood will also introduce a new delivery model to the market. Developed in partnership with LikeTaxi, private hire and taxi drivers will take on deliveries for easyFood as part of their standard shifts.

Nilesh Patel, owner of the Leicester easyFood franchise said: “It’s been great working with the team at easyFood to get the business off the ground.

“I’m really privileged to be the first franchisee to launch and think that the restaurants in Leicester will love what they do.”

Jeewan Sagu, co-founder and CEO of easyFood said: “We’re really looking forward to the launch.

“We’ve been working on our app and our model for years and have invested over £1 million into it. We’ve put in the work to make sure it is not just successful, but really thrives and becomes a main competitor to the likes of Just Eat and Deliveroo.

“We’re passionate about keeping the food and beverage industry afloat as they bring local communities like Leicester closer together. We have even incorporated table ordering into our app to help communities, restaurants, and customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Once we saw restaurants were struggling because of the current providers on the market, we had to do something, and since Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou believes in the same things we do, he’s been great to work with.”

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou added: “It’s a really exciting time for the easy family, with the launch of easyFood in Leicester.

“We have always prided ourselves on making things affordable for everyone, and with the model easyFood has for both customers and restaurants, they are a welcome partnership.

“The government’s social distancing guidance makes many restaurant owners nervous about making it through this very difficult period.

“It’s a great opportunity for those businesses that are being affected by the downturn to join easyFood and transition to a delivery-based operation.”

The company uses a franchise model with plans to expand throughout the UK. There will be 260 territories where the brand will launch as soon as the franchises are snapped up. Launches in Birmingham, Lichfield and Walsall are already lined up.

Bamboo Street Food, a vegan street food restaurant in Leicester, is among the first restaurants in the city to sign up to easyFood. The restaurant is located near a number of offices and has sought to expand its delivery offering while home working is encouraged.

Divesh Raj, co-founder at Bamboo Street Food, said: “Ensuring that our customers can order our food affordably and efficiently is so important to us, and even more so during lockdown, so we were delighted to hear that easyFood was launching in Leicester.

“The joining process took minutes, so we were signed up in no time. After the 72-hour onboarding process, we were ready to start preparing delicious orders for local people. The competitive rates are a huge bonus for us, because often delivery services want a large percentage of every order you get, which soon eats into profit. easyFood is a fantastic alternative, and we can’t wait to work with them to serve the people of Leicester.”
