NTU reveals plans for new 57,000 sq ft art and design school

How the new Art & Design centre would look

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) has revealed plans for a new 57,000 sq ft Art & Design building on the corner of Shakespeare Street and North Sherwood Street in the city centre.

The university says the new development will place Nottingham as the centre for film, television, animation, UX design, games design and graphic design.

NTU are intending to submit a planning application for the development, designed by Hawkins\Brown, by mid-March.

Michael Marsden, executive dean for the School of Art & Design, said: “The new development at 42 Shakespeare Street is not only an architecturally significant building for Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University but one which will see the school of Art & Design becoming the leading art school for the creative industries.”

If it gains planning approval, NTU says it hopes work will start on site by the summer, with completion by Autumn 2023.
