Global logistics firm signs up for 104,000 sq ft at St Modwen scheme

St Modwen Logistics has completed a deal with ecommerce fulfilment solutions provider, Super Smart Service (SSS), at its 50-acre logistics development in Burton-upon-Trent.

SSS has signed a 15-year lease on a 103,947 sq ft warehouse at St Modwen Park Burton, which is already home to a number of established occupiers including Hellman Worldwide Logistics, Keylite Roof Windows, Supply Technologies, and London City Bond.

SSS will use the space as a distribution centre. Operating nine sites across the West Midlands and Staffordshire, the business has more than 500 employees, with more jobs being created in 2021 as a result of the move to Burton.

SSS’s parent company, Fujian Zongteng Network Co. currently operates 95 chartered airfreight lines and has warehouses in China, the United States, Australia and Germany, employing more than 3,600 people worldwide.

Speculatively built by St Modwen, the new unit provides SSS with 12.5m eaves height, 10 dock level access doors, Grade A offices, and 117 car parking spaces within the landscaped business park.

Polly Troughton, managing firector at St Modwen Logistics, said: “It’s fantastic to be welcoming Super Smart Service to the line-up of businesses that have based themselves at St Modwen Park Burton. We’ve shown a continued confidence and commitment to the region with speculative investments across Staffordshire and this latest deal has only reinforced the strength of the logistics market in the area.”

Charles Lu, general manager at Super Smart Service, added: “We’re delighted to be upscaling our operations in the West Midlands. The strategic location of St Modwen Park Burton makes this an ideal location for us to expand and serve the local community. We look forward to growing and establishing our business here in Burton-upon-Trent.”

Joint agents for the scheme are Savills and Knight Frank.
