Regulator closes Leicester law firm after ‘dishonesty’ allegations

Soophia Khan of Sophie Khan & Co

A Leicester law firm has been closed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) because of allegations of dishonesty.

The legal regulator took the unusual step at Sophie Khan & Co as it believes “there is reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of Soophia Khan as the sole manager”.

The firm specialises in claims against the police and public authorities and Khan herself is a high-profile speaker on police misconduct.

Earlier this year Khan was criticised by the High Court after her evidence was described as “not credible”. The case related to documents Khan said she had hand-delivered for an SRA investigation into complaints against her firm.

John Owen of Yorkshire law firm Gordons has been appointed as the intervening agent.
