£171m Midlands housing bid gets green light

Midlands-based social housing providers Midland Heart and emh, along with their delivery partner Futures Housing Group, have had a joint £171.7m development bid approved by Homes England, which will see them deliver 3,551 new affordable homes together over the next five years.

The housing associations, who currently provide over 50,000 affordable homes across the region, have joined forces for the first time to secure this funding for the Midlands.

Under this programme, the government’s homebuilding agency Homes England is committing almost £5.2bn in grant funding to 31 strategic partnerships with 35 organisations.

Glenn Harris, chief executive at Midland Heart, said: “The Midlands desperately needs more affordable homes and our new partnership will support us to deliver as many as possible over the next five years. We’re delighted to have been successful in our bid and look forward to working even more closely with emh.”

Chan Kataria, chief executive of emh, said: “This partnership funding means we can manage our development programme with certainty and flexibility, giving us the ideal platform to deliver over 600 new affordable homes a year. We are excited to be working with our strategic partner Midland Heart and our delivery partners to achieve our aspirations.”
