Maven Property (Nottingham) is launching a public consultation to gather feedback on a proposed student accommodation development in the city centre.

The site faces onto Lower Parliament Street and is also bounded by Clifton Street East, Clifton Street West and the junction of Lincoln and Thurland streets.

The plans include a repurposing of the existing building, which houses retailers Poundland and Bon Marché, to bring forward student accommodation.

The plans outline the retention of the existing building, with the current “concrete-bunker” façade being upgraded.

Additional storeys will be added, creating a development of three storeys fronting Lower Parliament Street, stepping up to a maximum of 5 storeys elsewhere.

The primary student entry point will front onto Lincoln Street. The retail provision on ground floor will be retained and an additional pedestrian entrance will be created.

The redevelopment of the building will see 59 individual bedrooms arranged cluster-style with a shared kitchen/living space, alongside 51 studio apartments. Amenities for residents will include shared lounge spaces, a ground floor student hub, a gym, laundry facilities, a reception and bike storage.

No parking facilities would be included.

Carolyn McEwan of Maven Capital Partners said: “This scheme will see the complete transformation of a building that is one of the less attractive in Nottingham city centre. Our proposals would see an attractive development brought forward to serve Nottingham’s growing student population and to improve the look and feel of the local area. In addition, by incorporating yet improving the existing structure into our development we can reduce the environmental impact of construction to create a more sustainable development.”

The consultation runs for three weeks, closing on 17 March.
