On the move: the latest East Midlands hires

Emma Cohen

OTB Legal has welcomed a new associate.

Emma Cohen has joined the Nottingham law firm from top-tier ranked Bindmans LLP in London.

Cohen, who features in the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 directories, adds to a 14-strong team of immigration law experts at OTB.

She has taught on the Legal Practice course at Anglia Ruskin University, worked in the voluntary sector at a legal advice centre, trains for the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA) and is a volunteer adviser for Rainbow Migration (previously the UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG)).

Cohen said: “OTB Legal has a fantastic reputation in the industry that reaches far outside of the East Midlands and is a firm that I am very proud to be a part of.

“It is growing both in terms of the team and service offerings and is a very modern and progressive law firm. I have been impressed by how it has embraced hybrid working and harnessed technology to create a client-driven approach backed by employees that are rewarded, recognised and developed in terms of their careers. I look forward to bringing my own experience to the team and helping to develop the offering further still.”

Legal operation director Marcus Worthington said: “Emma’s recruitment is a sign of the ambitious plans that OTB Legal has for growing and developing our legal teams and delivering an outstanding service for our growing client base.

“Her reputation precedes her and the team and I look forward to working with her closely as we continue to develop our offering across both the business and personal immigration law teams.”

Harron Homes North Midlands has promoted Julia Portington to senior sales executive.

Portington brings 38 years’ experience in the housebuilding industry to the role. She will oversee sales at Harron’s Brierly Heath development at Stanton Hill, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

She said: “At Harron, I spend a lot of time liaising with our sales managers. I find that my own experience as a sales manager has enabled me to view things from both perspectives, which really makes our communication that much more effective.

“I’m definitely a people person, and I think it’s this that encouraged me to apply as a sales executive. Being able to interact with both customers and fellow employees every day is definitely the most rewarding aspect of the job for me.”

Natalie Griffiths, sales and marketing director for Harron Homes North Midlands, added: “Julia has proved herself to be a wonderful addition to Harron Homes, and we’re delighted to see her progress through our company. The optimism and diligence she brings to her work as a sales executive are exactly the kinds of things we as a company pride ourselves upon. We’re always looking to inspire our employees to achieve their absolute best in their roles, and Julia is a testament to that.”
