Over 120 jobs could be created in Lutterworth after Harborough District Council green lit plans to open branches of McDonalds and Costa Coffee in the market town.

The outlets would be located at Leaders Farm off the A4303 roundabout for Coventry Road. Both tenants will be expected to help ensure the remaining part of the site can be used as employment space in future.

The development will feature upwards of 50 car parking spaces. Improvements would also be made to the A4303 roundabout, including the addition of pedestrian crossings and new planting.

Councillor Lee Breckon – cabinet member for finance at Leicestershire County Council and a member of the East Midlands Freeport board – said: “We are delighted to have secured planning approval and look forward to getting work underway as soon as possible.

“This is an exciting project, which we hope is just the start of the employment opportunities at Leaders Farm and gives us the chance to best use our land to benefit residents. This site is ideally located and convenient for sustainable employment and supports Leicestershire’s thriving economy.”

“Approval for these units and the investment we’ll be making in the site will also bring a long-term income for the county”, he added.
