The competition and Markets Authority are looking into Hansons plan to buy Mick George Group, a company that recycles waste from construction and demolition.

Mick George Group primarily works in East Anglia and East Midlands regions and employees around 1,000 staff members.

The company runs four recycling centres, eight waste transfer centres, eleven quarries for aggregates and ten ready-mixed concrete plants.

Eight months ago, Hanson revealed intentions to acquire the business with a turnover of £220m.

This acquisition, according to Mick George Group would expand Hanson’s recycling capabilities, enabling the company to advance novel waste processing technologies.

The leaders of the competition watchdog said they will assess whether the proposed transaction, if implemented, would lead to a significant reduction in competition within any UK market or markets.
