Forest sack Cooper with former Wolves boss expected to take over

Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest have sacked head coach Steve Cooper, ending weeks of speculation over the future of the man who steered the club back to the Premier League.

In less than two years Cooper took the City Ground club from the foot of the Championship to the top division – and kept them there last season.

However, a solid start from Forest this season has turned sour and the club sits just five points above the Premier League relegation spots after a poor run of results.

Former Wolves and Spurs manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, appears to be favourite to take over from Cooper.

A statement from Forest said that Cooper had “cemented himself” into the Club’s history.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis said: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club. His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the Club’s history.

“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham.

“Steve will always remain a friend of the Club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
