Plans in for second phase of major Nottingham gateway scheme

How the new building will look

MRP Nottingham has submitted plans for the second phase of its hybrid residential scheme on Queen’s Road, next to Nottingham railway station.

The latest phase will include 247 apartments at the key gateway site into Nottingham city centre and will be made up of a part-8, part-9 and part-18 storey building. These will be a mix of build-to-rent studios, 1-bed, 2-bed, and 3-bed apartments, and shared 4- and 5-bed apartments.

The new plans follow Phase 1 of the development – already under construction – that will include a 406-bed student accommodation scheme.

The site, at the busy junction of Queens Road and London Road, was the historic site of “Wagon Works” surrounded by other production works such as iron, steel and lace, located opposite in the Hicking Building – itself now a successful mixed use scheme.

A planning statement reads: “The site of the proposed development is in a highly accessible and sustainable city centre location. It will redevelop an underutilised site for residential use and add to the choice of housing available in the city centre. The proposed development will preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the Station Conservation Area and improve the wider street scene.”
