M1 closed southbound due to ‘police incident’

The M1 is closed southbound between Junction 22 and Junction 21A this morning (March 22) due to an ongoing police incident.

Traffic caught within the closure is being turned around from the rear of the queue.

A statement from National Highways said: “We expect this closure to be in place throughout the morning.”

Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the solid circle diversion symbol on road signs:

– Leave the M1 southbound at J22 and at the roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A50.

-Follow the A50 eastbound to the A50/A46 interchange and at the roundabout take the 4th exit onto the A46.

– Continue on the A46 back to M1 J21A and merge with the M1 southbound to continue your journey.

The motorway had been closed in both directions earlier this morning, but police eventually released northbound traffic.
