Construction entrepreneur named Nottinghamshire’s new Deputy Lieutenant

Steff Wright

Steff Wright has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for Nottinghamshire, for a term of at least three years.

Wright is the founder and chairman of Gusto Group, a B Corp-accredited business based in Nottinghamshire, with companies in manufacturing, construction, and architecture.

His company, Gusto Construction, has been building sustainable homes for over 25 years.

With over 30 years of experience in sustainable development, Wright is well-placed to support initiatives focused on climate and community progress.

Wright said: “Not only am I excited to join this network of experienced individuals, but I also look forward to sharing my experiences as an entrepreneur and business owner. I hope to bring the perspective of someone local to the area who has built a family business, which focuses on innovation, sustainability, and enriching the community it serves.”

Deputy Lieutenants represent the monarch in each county, taking part in key events like royal visits, presenting community awards, advising on honours, and contributing to working groups that address important local issues.

Wright joins a diverse group of deputies, including business leaders, military personnel and educators.

Each deputy has expertise in different areas but shares the goal of supporting the King’s priorities, which include Community, Culture, Commonwealth, Climate and health.

Gusto Group, based in Newark, is transitioning to a 100% employee-owned business through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), allowing employees of all ages to become co-owners.

Wright also runs Newark and Sherwood United FC, a grassroots football club that promotes local football talent and encourages sustainability in the sport through its plant-based approach.

Wright continued: “To facilitate the transition to net zero, we must put climate change at the centre of everything and rebalance the economy to be focused on low carbon outcomes. But to realise targets like this, we need innovators willing to find solutions and make change happen. This is why non-political organisations able to facilitate connections and partnerships are crucial. I hope that in this role I can help to progress the King’s ambitions to shape the fair transition which is needed within the county, our country, and the wider commonwealth.”
