400-bed student scheme approved at the Island Quarter

How the scheme will look

Nottingham City Council’s planning committee has approved another major student accommodation project at the Island Quarter site.

The proposal, which was unanimously approved, includes 313 bed spaces in cluster flats and 81 single-occupancy studios. Additional facilities will include a gym, laundry room, lounges, and breakout areas.

Submitted by Conygar in February, the application was approved subject to final details of planning conditions and negotiations around cycle parking. The Director of Planning and Transport will oversee these final steps.

The Island Quarter site already hosts a 693-bed development, Winfield Court, and could eventually accommodate over 1,000 students from the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.

Christopher Ware, property director at Conygar, the developer behind The Island Quarter, said: “Following the completion of Winfield Court, this secondary student phase is the next step to evolve and diversify the opportunities for students to live at The Island Quarter.

“By creating living experiences that are well-designed and varied in options, including more single occupancy studios, we can provide a mix that appeals to a variety of domestic and international students seeking high-quality PBSA in the city, while preventing depletion of Nottingham’s housing stock.”
