Shoosmiths in talks to downsize Nottingham and Milton Keynes offices

Where Shoosmiths are currently based in Nottingham

Law firm Shoosmiths is currently in discussions to downsize its offices in Nottingham and Milton Keynes.

The proposed closures are part of the firm’s move to streamline its operations, with plans to reclassify its offices into three categories: “core,” “hubs,” and “community spaces.”

This is aimed at better aligning the firm’s office space with flexible working patterns, in response to changes in how staff are working.

Shoosmiths has had a presence in Nottingham since 1984, with its office currently located on the seventh floor of Waterfront House. However, under the proposed plan, the firm would move to a smaller “community space” within the city.

While no final decision has been confirmed yet, Shoosmiths has reassured staff that roles are not at risk and that services will continue as usual in both Nottingham and Milton Keynes, regardless of the office changes.

A spokesperson for Shoosmiths said: “Discussions are currently taking place regarding moving to a smaller community space but this is due to feedback that in Nottingham (much like Milton Keynes), our colleagues are making use of our flexible working model meaning that the size of the current office space in Nottingham is not being utilised while many work from home.

“This change will not result in the loss of any staff beyond the regular churn of exits and new hires, and we will continue to operate business as usual out of Nottingham even after the office move.”
