A £400,000 investment in new machinery by a Belper company that makes sealants has boosted production and secured jobs.

Adshead Ratcliffe has bought a mixer and another filling machine for its factory at Derby Road which produces the range of Arbo brand sealants used in the construction industry.

The acquisitions follow a report by accountancy firm Grant Thornton and the CBI which last year placed Adshead Ratcliffe – who can trace their history back to 1859 – 14th in the East Midlands list of fastest growing companies, and third in Derbyshire.

“Following on from a similar performance in 2014, this gave us the confidence to invest more in the business, said operations director Roger Sheehan.

“This investment has secured jobs and given us a platform for future growth which we hope will include creating jobs.”

The company, which can trace its history back to 1859, currently has 70 employees and in the last financial year had a turnover of more than £10m.

The company’s products have been used in work in the Houses of Parliament, the new Bull Ring shopping centre in Birmingham, Crossrail in London, and a National Lottery-funded restoration of a wooden Second World War boat.
