20 new jobs to be created at Branston

Work to complete a £5m factory extension is now underway at Branston’s Lincolnshire site bringing new jobs into the area.

Branston’s new site will create 20 new roles and will allow potatoes which are not suitable for the fresh market to be peeled before going to convenience food producers as part of their mash potato ranges or as a topping for pies or casseroles.

Mark Willcox, technical director at Branston, said: “The factory’s 1,700 sq ft expansion will further establish Branston as one of the UK’s most substantial processors of potatoes.

“We’ll be adding value to potatoes that don’t make it into a pack as a class I product, which is a great way to reduce food waste – a real win for both farmers and consumers.

“We supply prepared vegetables to the UK’s top retailers and this extension will go a long way to help us meet the growing demand we’re seeing in this area. We expect that this new business-to-business part our customer portfolio will continue to grow alongside the very successful chilled prepared vegetable lines that we currently sell to the country’s leading supermarkets.”

He added: “A great deal of thought has gone into the design of the new space, and the hi-tech equipment being installed. The system is designed for high throughput, flexibility and space efficiency, and we can’t wait to get going when the facility opens in the early autumn.”
